Ice Cube Secures Deal to Finally Make “Last Friday” Movie

After years of anticipation and setbacks, Ice Cube has officially been given the greenlight to move forward with the next installment in his iconic Friday movie franchise.

The legendary rapper, actor, and filmmaker has struck a new deal with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to develop Last Friday, marking the long-awaited return of the cult classic comedy series that began back in 1995. This upcoming film will be the fourth in the series and the first new installment in over two decades.

New Line’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Brenner, confirmed the exciting update during an exclusive chat with The Hollywood Reporter. “We are making another Friday,” Brenner said. “We just closed a deal with Ice Cube to write and star. It’s going to be called Last Friday.”

While the full cast and production timeline are still under wraps, one thing is clear—Ice Cube will once again return to write and take a leading role in the movie that helped solidify his crossover success in Hollywood.

For years, Cube has been vocal about wanting to bring the next chapter of Friday to life. His fans have kept the demand alive, with social media consistently buzzing over the idea of a final film. The tragic passing of key cast members such as John Witherspoon, Tiny “Deebo” Lister, and A.J. Johnson has only fueled Cube’s urgency to finish what they started.

Last October, speaking on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the N.W.A icon shared his optimism: “It’s coming back. We gonna do it. We gonna make it dope, make it funny, bring it up to date, introduce new characters, bring back old characters, create the feeling the movie gives you.”

According to Cube, the shift in leadership at Warner Bros. played a key role in reviving the project. Mike DeLuca, who once worked with Cube during the early days of Friday, is now a top decision-maker at the studio. That personal connection seems to have helped get the wheels turning once again.

Cube explained in a past interview with Flavor Flav that he was frustrated with the delays. “They want to do it, but the key is it gotta be done, or we shouldn’t f**k with it. So they finally came to their senses,” he said.

With a renewed partnership and a burning desire to honor those they’ve lost, Ice Cube’s Last Friday is shaping up to be more than just another sequel—it could be the perfect sendoff to a beloved franchise
