He is a Pennsylvania man charged with one of the most gruesome cases in the state’s history in recent years, the m@rder and dec@pitat!on of his own father, and now he is going to stand trial in a tr!al that is much awaited, beginning in the coming week in Bucks County.
Justin D. Mohn, 33, is accused of shooting and subsequently beheading his father, Michael F. Mohn, in the family home in Levittown in early 2024.
Prosecutors revealed that Justin did not only capture the brutal aftermath videos but also posted on YouTube a video of his father with his severed head demanding a violent attack on the U.S. government.
The anti-government rants were present in the chilling 14-minute video, which was also accessible online before it was taken down after a few hours.
Nightmare at discovery
It was in fact one of his own daughters living in the house, Justin mother, who found the gruesome scene on February 2, 2024, when she stepped upon the mutilated body of her husband in the bathroom.
According to invest!gators, Justin had just bought a gun and he allegedly used it to gun down his father and later dec@pitated him using a kitchen knife and machete.
The government has affirmed that the k!lling was planned and motivated by radical and anti-state ideologies.
This was not simply a family v!olence incident, Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said during a press conference last year. It was political extremism, combined of personal betrayal and mental instability.

An Extradinary Break-Away
The same day, a few hours after the video was uploaded, Justin Mohn was caught. Officials said that he had scaled a 20-foot fence at the National Guard headquarters, Fort Indiantown Gap, in Pennsylvania.
Mohn, armed with a handgun, is reported to have tried to persuade soldiers to join in an attack against the U.S. government.
When he was arrested, he had a USB drive on him, and the authorities claim that it had pictures of federal buildings, along with directions on how he could make explosives. His seemingly intended object? To provoke an uprising using arms.
Anti-immigration, anti-federal and conspiratorial rhetoric found in Mohn online writings have further drawn a worrying graphic of his mental state and ideological extremism.
In his video on YouTube, he made rants against the U.S. government, city crime, the border, and even the war in Ukraine.
The Victim: A Quiet Life of Service
The victim, Michael F. Mohn, a 68-year-old long-term federal employee, had been an engineer with the geoenvironmental branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working there longer than 20 years.
Justin labeled his father a traitor in the video, apparently because he worked at the federal level. However, to the people who actually knew Michael, he was a hardworking professional and a caring father, who was taken aback when his son turned into a radical.

Family friends of the Mohns were in denial and heartbroken over the murder. As one resident, who resided across the family in 15 years, explained to reporters: Michael was kind, generous, and soft-spoken. This we never saw coming.”
A few flowers and candles are still placed outside the Mohn residence a subdued reminder of a man who died in a brutal way in his home.
A Mental Health Defense?
Justin Mohn, who is being defended by Steven M. Jones, has made no indication of a possible plea deal, but has admitted that the charges are graphic. At his previous trial, his defense team raised a mental competency issue, indicating that Mohn already had a hold on reality long before the murder took place.
At a prior competency hearing, a mental health expert testified that Justin had also written a strange note to the ambassador of Russia in the United States, apologizing to President Vladimir Putin over his earlier claims of being the czar of Russia, and seeking asylum in Russia.
Nevertheless, prosecutors say that Mohn acted in a calculated, conscious and ideologically dangerous way. They say that his political writings and his trying to enter a military base shows clear signs of intent, rather than delusion.
Among the Charges, there is Terrorism.
Among the underage, there is murder and the mutilation of a corpse; Mohn is also charged with terrorism-related offenses under both state and federal laws. They are grounded on his efforts to sow violence and promote insurrection both online and in person in Fort Indiantown Gap.

According to DA Schorn, this is a very unusual and very distressing case. It is not only about the most intimate betrayal possible, a son killing his father, but also the threat to the safety of the population and the national security.
What is Next?
Part of the jury was selected Monday morning and opening statements would be carried later this week. The trial will take several weeks with the prosecutors providing forensic evidence, video recordings, and digital content on the personal devices of Mohn.
Mental health professionals will also testify in either party.
There is a close observance of the proceedings by the general population and the press, not just due to the bloody nature of the crime but also on how the incident calls into question, domestic extremism, mental health, and also the speed at which an extreme ideology based can quickly devolve into violence, even among the family members.
