Comedian and actor Russell Brand is now facing multiple criminal charges, including one count of rape, oral rape, indecent assault, and two additional counts of sexual assault.
These charges were officially announced on Friday, April 5, 2025, by London’s Metropolitan Police. According to law enforcement, the allegations follow a months-long investigation that began in September 2023.
This came after explosive reports were published by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times, detailing claims from four women who accused Brand of sexual assault or rape during a period from 2006 to 2013—years when Brand was at the peak of his career.
British detectives stated that the probe into Brand’s conduct began shortly after the media exposés surfaced. The women involved have since been under the care of specially trained officers offering support, as the investigation remains active.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, speaking on behalf of the Met Police, urged others who may have been affected or possess relevant information to come forward and assist with the ongoing case.
Brand has been summoned to appear before a London court for an initial hearing scheduled for May 2, 2025. Authorities confirmed that the charges were issued via postal requisition, meaning he was not arrested or taken into custody. Instead, he remains on bail pending his court date.
In a video shared on social media the same day the charges were announced, Russell Brand strongly denied all allegations. Filmed outside of the U.K., the video showed the 48-year-old reflecting on his past and questioning the integrity of the British legal system.
“The law in the U.K. has become a kind of weapon used against those who challenge widespread corruption,” Brand said in the video. He described himself as a reformed individual, mentioning his Christian faith and past struggles with drug and s*x addiction.
“But what I never was, was a rapist,” Brand declared firmly. He insisted all past relations were consensual and urged viewers to judge his sincerity through his eyes.
Brand ended the video by thanking his supporters and saying he welcomed the opportunity to defend himself in court. As of now, he remains a free man, preparing for his upcoming legal battle.
