Ghanaian dancehall king Shatta Wale is in the news once again with the Shatta Wale teaching his anger and this time he is directing it to one of the most revered businessmen in Ghana, Dr Osei Kwame Despite.
During an intense TikTok Live on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the vocal musician threatened to go public with some juicy facts about the media mogul in case his name was still mentioned on the platforms of Despite Media.
Shatta Wale claims that his name was recently brought up to a discussion in one of the media houses (Neat FM) owned by the Despite Group. In the discussion, there was his friend and a rapper Medikal who has been on the receiving end of criticism after he performed an inappropriate act with a female student in a recent campus event.
This attack on Medikal by radio personality MC Yaa Yeboah however intensified as a result of bringing a relation between what Medikal did and influence that Shatta Wale had. This was according to Shatta Wale the last straw.
Shatta Wale said that even should anyone go on Peace FM or UTV and speak the name of Shatta Wale, he would come and speak things about Despite that would land him and Shatta Wale in trouble with the FBI. I can not tell what I know will be manageable in this country.
Although this is not the first time Shatta Wale has made this kind of bold statement, what he has said this time around has had a deeper weight bearing in mind that he has specifically mentioned Dr Despite, who is a widely perceived quiet, philanthropic, and business-oriented man.

An History of Tensions
It is not the first time Shatta Wale is having a public war with the Despite Media Group. In 2023, Shatta made a swipe at the media personalities Fadda Dickson and Akwasi Aboagye alleging that they were making him smaller and made the allegation after Aboagye doubted him about his claim of being paid 80,000 pounds to perform at the Ghana music awards UK. He also reproached Despite who is accused to have his platforms used to mock artists.
This is not a new tension as it seems that the recent Medikal controversy sparked it once again. Shatta Wale thinks that the press has been hasty to fail artists, citing as an example, Bisa Kdei.
People claimed that Bisa Kdei sings funeral songs only. Look at him today, he is rich, richer than the majority of you who are saying rubbish on the air way, Shatta lashed out, in defending the artists who he believes are underrated.
Respect… With Limits
Interestingly, although being rather harsh in his words, Shatta Wale still admitted that he is still admiring Dr Despite to some extent.
I admire Despite. He is a role model. However, when you enable your employees to treat me in a demeaning manner repeatedly, then you will be part of the problem.”
The musician expounded that he had anticipated individuals such as Fadda Dickson to speak up on the continuous disparaging remarks raised against him on the platforms of Despite. That has not been the case and therefore Shatta feels he has nowhere to go, but to come out with what he says is explosive information.
He made no explicit detail about what exactly he would unveil but his constant warnings implicating the FBI raised some eyebrows on the social media platforms.
What Got the Current BlowUp?
The last drama played out when Medikal was severely attacked by issues regarding his behavior, which was said to be inappropriate touching a female student in the course of performing at Evandy-Bani Hall Week at the University of Ghana on June 14, 2025, at an episode of the entertainment segment of Neat FM.
MC Yaa Yeboah and her panel condemned the behavior of Medikal and said that Shatta Wale was a bad influence on the rapper. This did not go well with Medikal who had retaliated with insults at the pundits. Shatta Wale on his part defended his friend through a live video which was full of emotions, anger, and threats.
Public Reaction
Reactions have been going round the social media. As much as some of the fans feel Shatta Wale is justified in his outburst, others feel that he went to an extreme in his threats.

Maameyaa said: “That TV should leave Shatta alone.”
@Iamnorm said, the station ought to cease being disrespectful to this man. It is not just.”
Others however demanded maturity and caution and advised Shatta Wale to sort the issue out before causing national embarrassment.
Will there be More?
The mention of FBI by Shatta Wale has also raised more interest and worry. In case he is possesing any information which would interest the international authorities, then a self-perpetuating cycle may be crossed, over which Ghana may have no control.
However, people have been questioning whether the things he said were more emotions than actual threats. Shatta has gained fame over the years through his uncontrollable rants on social media where he eventually retracts his worst said remarks.
There has been some clamor by some of the fans that he should focus his power more positively and not use it to cause conflicts that might make an ugly mark on his image or force tensions in the industry.

So What is the Situation?
Dr Osei Kwame Despite and any of the managers of Despite media Group have not made any known statement to address the threats of Shatta Wale. It remains unknown whether the case will be opened in the court or will be solved behind the scenes.
With the population in continued anticipation of what might turn out to be a big expos or a closed-curtain, one thing is clear: Ghana entertainment industry is biting its fingers.
