Even though they’ve been married for 29 years, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos can still joke about how things might turn out if things didn’t work out.
Thursday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark turned into a fun (and funny) discussion about breakups, feeling upset and recovering — and Mark’s joke at the end had everyone in the studio laughing.
The topic began when Ripa mentioned a study showing men value romance more and may suffer both physically and emotionally after a breakup.
If we split up, you would be devastated. Completely, Ripa said with full certainty as a wife.
Consuelos quickly confirmed this was the case and went on.
That’s the case, he replied, making the crowd say “aww.”

Such sentiments weren’t around long before Consuelos made a smooth entrance into comedy.
Yet, I realize there would be someone who would be there to pick me up and ensure I’m okay. He teased, “I’m sure of that.”
The crowd cracked up, and Ripa did too, but Wallis continued for the rest of the interview.
Could a Midlife Reboot Be a Good Idea?
He twisted the joke until it got almost silly, saying:
I’d have to get familiar with their college routines and other things.
If the marriage ever failed, Mark says he might look for a date among people who are still preparing for fall classes.
Laughing, Ripa fired back at Chelsea:
Oh my God. Please, dear God, let me be around when your second wife comes along!
She noted that teasing about splitting up is pretty much normal in their nearly three-decade-marriage.
That’s something he always brings up. As soon as I suggest that we break up, he quickly says, ‘I’ll find someone else.’ I’m like, ‘You know that, you deal with her homework schedule.’
Marriage, Vegas-Style
They didn’t meet until they were cast together in All My Children as husband and wife, and then they began their real-life relationship. They kept their Vegas wedding private in May 1996 until radio host Wendy Williams released the information.

“A surprise wedding that was cracked by Wendy Williams. It’s true, I didn’t joke about it,” Ripa said several months later, remembering that their visit to the courthouse soon became public knowledge.
Now, after many years, they are known as one of television’s most durable (and fun) couples, earning them the title of daytime royalty for co-hosting Live with Kelly and Mark.
From beginning with All My Children to bringing you All-Day Jokes.
It’s obvious from their acting and personal life that they have great chemistry, thanks to plenty of friendly pranks and inside humor.

Ripa often jokes about Kelly’s coffee drinking and early morning routines and Kelly isn’t shy about teasing her husband about his weight lifting and too-frequent use of body lotion.
The way they talk offers a unique look at a lasting relationship: not only fueled by devotion, but by a dash of humor and truth.
If we are not laughing at ourselves by now, why bother? As Ripa mentioned before.
They definitely aren’t slowing down — even if it leads to mocking second wives and dating younger people.
A Love That Can’t Be Explained by the Got-It-All Movies
Even with the humor, there’s honesty in how the couple connect with each other. Even though the show often jokes about Mark needing to adapt to his wife’s routines, it’s obvious their marriage is founded on mutual respect.
The show’s only attempt at teasing Ripa—“I“ hope I live to see your second wife!”—is” more like a loving jab than a serious remark.
If nothing else, the segment underscored how easy they are in their respective positions as spouses, hosts and joke partners.
Even after three decades, they still find each other surprising, still laugh a lot and keep morning shows full of surprises.
Treasure right now? College-aged girlfriends and TV gold.
Even though Consuelos doesn’t have to remember a college girlfriend’s classes, his timing and Ripa’s flexibility explain why they are a great show pair.
At this stage, all he seems to be drawn to are his wife’s perfectly timed jokes.
And suppose the jokes actually happen? Ripa longs for a spot right up front to view everything that happens.
“As long as I’m still around, I don’t care,” she laughed. “Just to see if it all works out the way it should.”
